Mama

I grew in warmth and subdued light. Her voice echoed softly. I floated and began to form.

But her embrace became tighter and restrictive. I struggled, I kicked, I pushed. I tried to roll. We battled.

And then, through a growing quivering, I dived head-first. I emerged into bright lights and fire. I felt my insides burning, and I gasped as air rushed into me. Then I felt the warmth of her skin and heard her cry of joy.

Earth

It was my last swim in the oceans of Earth. Once vast and wild, the seas were dotted with myriad islands of plastic — colorful but toxic. Was life so futile?

Homo Sapiens had become “Unwise Humans” and swarmed to every part of the world. Now ruled, unknown, by silicon overlords, the hubris of these primates knew no bounds.

That night, belted firmly to my seat, the count down began. Three, two, one, blast off. The Earth tried to hold on to me and pressed me hard towards the ground. The rocket’s thrust, however, broke her bonds, and I rushed out…
